Naledo is a social enterprise founded by a mother-daughter team - Umeeda and Nareena Switlo. Naledo started after Umeeda saw first-hand the high unemployment rates with youth while working as a government advisor in Belize. She partnered with her daughter Nareena to create a food company that would utilize the incredibly potent variety of turmeric found growing in Belize – all while employing youth and supporting local farmers. Enter Naledo’s first product, Truly Turmeric, the world’s first wildcrafted, whole root turmeric paste, which is farmed using 350 small-scale production partners. Since launching in 2016, the product has grown to being sold in over 600 stores across North America. Naledo is proud to provide employment and entrepreneurship training to young people while producing products sustainably.
In 2019, Naledo completed District Ventures Accelerator’s Cohort VI program. Watch the video to see how this company’s commitment to sustainability is helping the planet be happier and healthier, one turmeric root at a time.
