The holidays are supposed to be the most wonderful time of year. However, if you’re a busy entrepreneur struggling to balance the demands of your family life with those of your business, you may find this season to be unmanageable. Here are some tips that will help you cope with the busyness so you have time to enjoy the festivities:
Prioritize. Take a look at your tasks and determine which ones are urgent and which can be put off until later. By postponing some items on your to-do list, you lighten your load and relieve some of your stress.
You may think that you’re handling the stress well, but if you’re not careful, it will catch up to you.
Take care of yourself. When you’re not looking after your body, it begins to affect your state of mind. Make time to exercise and to eat healthy meals. Try to minimize your consumption of caffeine and alcohol. Take a few minutes each day to practice deep breathing or meditation. You’ll be surprised by how much better you feel.
Know when to stop. You may reach a point where your hard work does you more harm than good. It is important that you know when to draw the line and give yourself a break. If you work from home or are chained to a mobile device, it’ll be even harder for you to unplug, but force yourself to do it. When you get back to work after a break you will be rejuvenated and even more productive.
Ask for help. Nobody said that you have to do it all by yourself. Get your family to pitch in at home and consider hiring someone temporarily to help out with your business. Remember, it is sometimes cheaper to pay someone to do your routine tasks than it is to do them yourself.
Entrepreneurs live hectic lives and the holidays are no exception. You may think that you’re handling the stress well, but if you’re not careful, it will catch up to you. Relax and use the holidays as an opportunity to recharge your batteries for the year ahead.
