“The inspiration for my company, Velvet Moustache, comes from the animal kingdom. I started it way back in 2007 – and the idea was to produce a fun and really wildly creative line of plush cushions and toys. We wanted to create objects that would touch people, make them smile, make them feel something. At the start, everything was made with recovered fabrics, buttons and sweaters. Since then, we’ve grown quite a bit – lots of ups and downs, but also definitely lots of fun along the way. Much more good than bad. My team is like my family – and I’m so proud of them, and of what we’ve all created along the way. Velvet Moustache is a place of fun and creativity, where we work toward the vision of inviting nature onto our couches and into our beds.”

The Velvet Moustache trademark

“The Velvet Moustache name is for personality, fun, and softness. The trademark is the half-closed eyes that are so difficult to sew, but that give the little something that makes them look alive.”

This is my latest pillow collection, inspired by alchemy

“This is my latest pillow collection, inspired by alchemy: velvet fabrics are being transformed into gold, looking for eternal life.”

We work to see Velvet Moustache sold all around the world

“We work to see Velvet Moustache sold all around the world. Every year we grow a little, it goes slowly and smoothly. I don’t want to rush. It is important for me to not be too stressed out, and have time to be there for my family.”

A workspace needs lots of light, sunlight, and white walls

Most of the time we are two at the workshop

“Most of the time we are two at the workshop, some say we look like each other. We are becoming more than co-workers, like friends or sisters.”

The best is to see how much people love my creations

“I am proud of having built this small business and respecting my values by making people work proudly and using eco-friendly materials. But the best is to see how much people love my creations, and just how much their softness is shared.”

This is my homemade list of all the pillow gifts

“This is my homemade list of all the pillow gifts I make along the year. I like to give them; it is like giving a little piece of me who will go home with others and be there, ready to be hugged, to share the emotions of everyday life.”

I find creativity in constraint, restriction and recycling

“I find creativity in constraint, restriction and recycling. Broken drawers becoming shelves is elegant and so simple!”

Purple has been chosen to be the Velvet Moustache colour

“Purple has been chosen to be the Velvet Moustache colour because it is associated with softness and dreams.”

My goal was to create an object that is just as decorative as cute

“My goal was to create an object that is just as decorative as cute and well crafted, with quality materials to last a long time with a family.”

This is a gift from my assistant designer

“When I chose to run a business instead of being an artist, alone with myself, one of the main reasons was to share and be with others. I respect all the members of my team, and all the subcontractors who take part in this business. This is a gift from my assistant designer, a certificate for being the best boss in 2012! Lucky me!“
