Whether we realize it, we’re all working towards the same common goal: to be our best selves. We vow to be healthy, read more, be happy. We want to thrive. But when work and life get demanding, how will we stay on track?
For Callie Schweitzer, the managing editor at Thrive Global, Arianna Huffington’s new media platform, to succeed in our work and lives we need to take small steps towards our goals. Schweitzer recently shared with YouInc how to start thriving, including a step towards better sleep, and what values she lives by to be at her best:
YouInc: What's the hard stuff we have to face before we can start to thrive?
Callie Schweitzer: I think the most important thing each of us can do is take a look at what’s important to us and see how close (or far) we are from feeling our priorities are in line. If you think of your choices as part of the bigger pie of life, where do you need to reallocate your time or your energy?
YI: How much is thriving about a mindset shift rather than having to make huge change in our lives?
CS: We really believe in the value of making small changes that lead to bigger ones. We are all works in progress, and we think that's an important mindset to adopt whenever you're trying to integrate change in any part of your life. One small change you could make tonight is committing to go to sleep 10 minutes earlier. Just 10 minutes. Try it!
YI: What principles/values do you live by to help you thrive, even on the days that you feel down or discouraged?
CS: I really prioritize time for myself and try to make sure that I fit in something that’s important to me every single day. Some days that means starting a new book or FaceTiming with my niece, other days that means discovering a new podcast or calling a friend.
