Global Entrepreneurship Week Kicks Off In Canada
Starting today, and running until Sunday, thousands of people are coming together to celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in 140 countries around the world. In Canada, celebrations will include over 300 events planned by over 150 host organizations as well as online activities and a national storytelling campaign.
Across Canada, small and medium-sized businesses represent 98% of all businesses and 48% of employment. Entrepreneurship is integral to our country and we must come together to support, celebrate and encourage entrepreneurship.
In their fifth year as host of GEW, the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is the hub of activity for celebration events across the country, enabling and mobilizing partners from coast-to-coast. The theme of GEW this year is Storytelling, and entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs across Canada are encouraged to add their voice, as CYBF collects the stories of our entrepreneurial nation.
"It is our intention to help inspire and support new and emerging entrepreneurs by showcasing and celebrating Canada’s entrepreneurial culture during GEW," says Julia Deans, CEO, CYBF. "With our partnerships locally, nationally and internationally, we are helping to create new connections and opportunities to share the stories and experiences that will inform the next generation of Canadian entrepreneurs."
The 2013 national campaign, entitled "Hello, My Name is", involves a series of online Meetups that provide a platform for entrepreneurs to share their stories. This campaign also offers Canadians the opportunity to submit their own entrepreneurial story for a chance to win a trip to the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2014 in Moscow.
