By definition, a mompreneur is a woman who wants it all. On top of everything, she strives to have time to play with her children, romance her spouse and pour her heart and soul into her business. So how do these ambitious ladies handle their stress? The tired old techniques won’t cut it for these divas. Here are some tips that will help these working mamas handle it all and look good doing it:
Mindful meditation. Mindful meditation is being completely present and aware in the moment. Instead of running away from a painful experience, you accept it. This acceptance allows you to let go of the pain and move on. A good place to start is by making an effort to be totally present in the moment. For example, if you are washing a cup, give the task your full attention. Feel the coolness of the tap as you turn it on, listen to the sound of the water as it runs into the sink, and pay attention to the scent of the dish soap that you are using. When you notice your mind wandering, gently bring yourself back.
As a busy mompreneur, it is important that you monitor your stress level and that you make time to relax when necessary.
Self-care. Mothers are notorious for taking good care of their children while at the same time ignoring their own needs. Unfortunately, this bad habit is a recipe for stress. At the very least, make sure that you cover the basics: eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly and get enough sleep. After that you can move on to massages and manicures!
Time outs. We give our children time outs when they need to reset. Why not allow yourself the same advantage? When you feel your stress level creeping up, step outside or get yourself a cup of water. Take a few breaths and try to relax. By carefully managing your stress level, you can make sure that you stay calm and don’t get overwhelmed.
Laughter. When was the last time you had a good laugh? Not a polite chuckle, I mean a tears-in-your-eyes, rolling on the floor belly laugh. That type of laughter is good for both your body and your soul. Figure out who really gets you giggling and invite them out for a drink.
Get creative. When you are fully engaged in something artistic, you can actually reach a meditative state. This gives your mind a much needed break from the stressors in your life. Even if you only have a bit of time to spend on it, it’ll give you a boost.
When you’re juggling a lot of responsibilities, burnout can sneak up on you. One minute you’re handling it all and suddenly everything falls apart. As a busy mompreneur, it is important that you monitor your stress level and that you make time to relax when necessary. Have fun with it and you may find that relaxation time is your favourite part of the day.
