Title: Gaining exposure by connecting with bloggers

Hello marketing pro's... In my efforts to increase awareness of my brand (www.artisansofabidjan.com), I cafe begun reaching out to a number of well-read bloggers with large followings. I've offered free samples of my products, as well. I've attempted to connect via social media as well as by email, and I gotta say, it's a tough nut to crack. I'm not sure my emails even made it past the spam filter. Any advice on connecting with professional bloggers? Thanks, O

Hi Owen,

Bloggers are the new rock stars, right? Good for you for attempting to get your products in front of influencers – you're right, it's not easy to get heard amongst all the noise. As a blogger and editor myself, I get hundreds of pitches a day, some very relevant, some completely not, so make sure you are pitching bloggers that have shown an interest in your niche – in your case African art and drums. Search hashtags, etc. to find those with influence. But to save time and money, don't discount traditional media either. Dropping off one of your cool Sisal beach bags with a press kit in it for editors of prominent fashion, decor and business magazines could be even more effective and timely (editors need a "news hook" to cover something). What's been proven with bloggers is that it matters less how many followers people have in terms of measuring engagement. What matters more is the platform they are publishing on and whether it is trusted or not. So in your case, traditional media (who – guess what – also have large social media followings, blogs, podcasts, etc.) could be your ticket.
