Getting investors is tough unless you can clearly demonstrate and articulate that the patent you have solves an existing problem that is large enough to form a business around. You have to demonstrate that a recognizable problem exists in the marketplace, you have current or potential sales and therefore a growing customer base, your financials will show an excellent gross margin and net profit with realistic projections, you have defined the value chain from manufacturing to distribution (assuming you are manufacturing "something"), existing competitive products, if any, are defined and all risks considered. Finally, be very sure on the value of the company to make sure that the equity offered is a fair value for the investors. Recognize that bringing on investors means that you will be bringing on opinions and expectations. So, if they dont like your strategy or your profitability is slow, you will be hearing from them real soon, which may distract you from working on the business at your own pace.
If you can get investors, you can get contacts. You have to prove the business model. Anyone can go through the patent process, but is the patent relevant from a pure business standpoint.
