While this may sound very unlawyerly, my immediate reaction is that you’re concerned about the wrong thing. I’ve heard many times that there is virtually no value in ideas, it’s all about execution. And I think that applies here. Ask yourself whether there is anything really of value in your ideas, or whether they only have value when in process and execution. There are times when the ideas as ideas are worth protecting, but truthfully that is quite rare.

That said, if you want to protect your ideas, the first place to start would be with an NDA/confidentiality agreement. Alternatively, if your ideas centre around brands, then you could also look at trying to file a trademark but that’s an expensive proposition and, often, the value of a trademark isn’t worth all that much.

Ultimately, no matter what you do to try and protect your work, those efforts are only as good as your willingness to enforce them. You can have the most airtight agreements in the world, but if you’re not in a position to sue to protect your rights or, more importantly, to demonstrate that you have suffered actual, quantifiable damages from a breach of those rights, then your efforts are largely going to be fruitless.
