It's a common complaint among freelancers that neighbours and others who aren't familiar with the work and lifestyle of the self-employed who work from home tend to have all the wrong ideas.
For example, they figure that because you're home all day, they can come by just to chat or, as one freelancer wrote a national newspaper sometime last year, ask you to babysit for them or run errands.
As someone once told me, freelancers are understood really only by other freelancers. As such, we're (almost) destined to live as recluses...
